Fall in NYC

Fall, my favorite time of year! I love the Fall, it always feels like a clean slate to me. New beginnings, school starting, my Birthday, leaves changing, pumpkin spiced lattes, the latest fashions, cozy sweaters & the crisp fall breeze. The Fall to me is always about positive life changes. This Fall I am in my 2nd trimester of being pregnant with twins, talk about life changing!

“I would rather sit on a pumpkin, and have it all to myself, than be crowded on a velvet cushion.”
― Henry David Thoreau

Happy 2014

Happy New Year! Out with old in with the New! Let Go & Let God. My 2013 was filled with love, drama, travel, family, fashion & career highs!
I want to take this moment to say Thank you to all of you lovely Blog readers for your support and or curiosity into my little world. I wish you all the very best for 2014. There is nothing as invigorating as a clean slate, a do- over. Take advantage of this new year and if you must look back, take the time to right the wrongs you may have made. The greatest part of life is that we can always start anew, strive to be better.
Forgive and forget, to forgive is to forget. It's Bull-shit to say I forgive you but I don't forget what you did. That in translation means your still holding onto all that negativity & pain.
Take 2014 to let it all wash away, delete your contacts, close the door and dead bolt it if you have too! Grow as big, bright and beautiful as God intended for you, and don't let anyone dull your shine.
Happy 2014, hold your head high and let this be your YEAR!

Love,
Kaki

My Birthday has always been a special day to me, I am "that girl" who loves Birthdays!
This year I was treated to my favorite NYC restaurant La Grenouille. It is a world renown French restaurant oozing with class & elegance. The fresh flowers permeate the restaurant like sweet perfume & the red banquettes are oh sooo romantic! It was the perfect Birthday dinner.

Spring Training

Spring has sprung in NYC. The streets are spilling over with hipsters in ray bans and colored jeans, business men in pastel ties, & uptown ladies carrying orange Birkins rather than conservative brown. Black is officially out & primary colors are in full bloom. The change in weather also leads to shedding of winter layers and the revealing of, dare I say, sexy skin! It's time to bare all. No more scarves, fur vests or Donna Karan over sized sweaters. Ubiquitous sheer Caftans are the only thing to cover you up. Well, it's not quite that warm. But the thought pleases my Los Angeles bones to no end. As Hampton's homes begin to get groomed & prepared for the summer festivities, people begin to feel the pressure of bikini season. Men join us women in the summer vanity games. Everyone wants a healthy body, mind and soul, with a strong emphasis on body! So sign up for a Soul Cycle class, grab your yoga mat, go to the golf course or just hit the gym. For me, believe it or not, I'm old school. I am a runner. I was runner since I was young. I ran the hills of Vermont at boarding school, I ran the canyons in LA while in college. And I will run or walk till I'm 90! I was caught jogging on a trail in Malibu. A freak accident as "Katy Perry" happened to be shooting her latest music video at the same beach! But then again Katy Perry 's songs are on my iPod workout list, so it's fitting. Spring training… go hard & enjoy your results while sipping a margarita pool-side in your best bikini!

New York's Best

1.) Best Hair: John Barret Salon, perched on the top floor of Bergdorff Goodmans. See stylist extraordinaire "Carter".

2.) Best Nails: Think Pink Nail Salon on 58th street, get a mani/pedi and the best massage in a spotless salon.

3.) Best Drink: "The penny drop" & giant champagne bowl both can be found at Standard Hotel bar/grill.

4.) Best Sushi: Nobu on 57th street, no contest.

5.) Best Boutique: Jeffreys in the meatpacking district carries all the designers and hard to find Louboutins, also home to my BFF shoe manager Eddie!

6.) Best Nightspot: Catch. I had my birthday dinner here, 4 levels celeb filled, restaurant/bar/lounge/roof-deck

7.) Best Lox & Bagel: Russ & Daughters, well worth the long wait.

8.) Best Date Night: La Grenouille. I wish I could eat here 7 nights a week, but I don't have enough jewels to keep up with the elegant crowd & amazing French cuisine. Put on your best Dolce dress & bring a fascinating date because you will never want to leave!

9.) Best Dessert: Morandi Restaurant introduced me to an "Affogato", which is vanilla gelato with an Italian espresso shot poured into a small cup, delicious.

10.) Best Slice: Villagio on 58th & 6th, plain is perfection.

11.) Best Photographer: Fadil Berisha, high fashion & glamour. See his photos below. He also has the best studio!

Kaki West in the West Village

It wasn’t this way on day 1 or maybe not even day 30 but to my surprise I have developed a love for the West Village, my new home in NYC. This affection did not come easily, there are no cabs, the winds are howling and the cobblestone streets in Louboutins are brutal. But I left it to fate, after all I am Kaki West living in the “West” village anchored by “West” street. I am told from those in the know that this is the new “blue chip” real estate in Manhattan. You cross over from the meatpacking hood & a hush comes over the world, you have arrived in the West Village, blink & your out. Taxi cab drivers do not even know my street name. I always end up giving the Standard hotel address & happily walking to my secret casa past the old world town homes, the dry cleaner on a yellow bike, the elderly West-Beth artists talking to themselves, bustling Barbuto restaurant or the drunks spilling out of Tortilla flats. You cannot live in a more unique part of Manhattan. Except we have the worst nails salons in the city, hands down ( no pun intended)!

Blonde and the City

My 1st Blog entry: 9:30 pm Eastern standard time. Location NYC.
New city, new season, new blonde? Like most ladies I up & moved to a new city for my Mr. Right. Lucky for me Mr. Right lives in NYC ? NY’ers have met me with a chilly & overly intellectual welcome. But the most surprising factor is the sorority known as the Brunettes. Every corner, restaurant, salon, office you will meet a member of this sorority. Occasionally a flash of a blonde high-light will pop out in the crowd. Maybe a platinum blonde but that belongs to “Lady Gaga” in NYC. I come from Team Blonde in LA, NYC is clearly team Brunette. Or should we all just meet in the middle with Ombre technique? So… with my new address, new season, new city and new a shade of blonde I join the NYC streets with a glimmer of golden hope.
Below picture: Yours truly at photo-shoot with my new home NYC in the background.
